Rand Tower Hotel

Rufus Rand Open House Celebration

In celebration of our hotel’s namesake and noted aviator, Rufus Rand, we’re inviting the Minneapolis community for a special summer open house celebration. Our team of hotel historians will guide you through the property to discover the history of Rand Tower, explore the art and artifacts of Rufus Rand’s life, and be inspired by the art deco architecture that has been meticulously restored. Finish your tour with some of Rufus Rand’s favorite libations in the hotel’s restaurant, Whiskey & Soda, named after two lion cubs who lived among the American airmen of WWI’s Lafayette Escadrille. These furry mascots provide a rich, thematic backdrop for our namesake bar.

Completed in 1929, the Rand Tower was once the tallest structure in downtown Minneapolis. It was designed by the architects Holabird & Root for a World War I aviator named Rufus R. Rand, Jr. who flew in the Lafayette Flying Corps. Today, his adventurous spirit lives on in the style, design, and historical ambiance of the Rand Tower Hotel.

July 1 - August 31, 2021
